Performs activities related to the cleanliness and beautification of Zoo and Zoombezi Bay grounds and event preparation/conclusion.
Responsibilities
Grounds Maintenance and Cleanliness
- Provides general grounds cleanliness including but not limited to washing and blowing sidewalks; snow removal; sweeping and cleaning; emptying and cleaning trash receptacles; hauling refuse from grounds to packer trucks and operating the packer devices; and the general beautification of Zoo’s egress and ingress areas.
- Performs all tasks related to mowing, mulching, weeding, and upkeep for common areas throughout Zoo grounds and in and around the Zoo’s egress and ingress areas.
- Assists with maintaining cleanliness of all public restrooms on Zoo grounds.
- Maintains upkeep of tables, chairs, picnic tables, and benches and is responsible for movement to and from assigned areas.
Event Support and Setup
- Set up and clean up functions such as holiday events, the Columbus Zoo Lantern Festival, concerts, catering events, marketing events, amphitheater events, and tents.
- Splits wood for Wildlights.
- Assists with installation, removal, maintenance, and inventory of special lighting and displays for special events, including but not limited to repair and maintenance of light strings, figures, and daily maintenance of light show after installation.
- Provides support and assistance with all activities related to Zoo special events such as Wildlights and Zoofari.
- Assists in the movement of office furniture and equipment.
Equipment and Safety
- Provides general maintenance of all equipment utilized in the performance of job duties.
- Assists with coordination and high lift installation and special electrical needs with the Maintenance department.
- Assure safety of self, the collection, staff, and visitors through proper safety training and techniques around the animals, equipment, and vehicles.
- Assists other facilities staff when required.
- Participates in cross-training activities as directed.
- Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, Safari Golf Club, and The Wilds.
- Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing is required.
- Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the guest service standards required.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Zoo team members and contacts regarding company business required.
Work Schedule and Organization
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
- The ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner without direct supervision is required.
Safety and Compliance
- Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
- Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement and annually thereafter required.
- Possession of a valid state-issued motor vehicle operator’s license, and a good driving record required, as well as ability to operate standard shift vehicles required.
- Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo Family of Park’s drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up treatment required.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum six months of related experience preferred.
- Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
