Summary
Column 15 Coffee is excited to be opening up a cafe in The Mariners Museum come mid April! As a Team Member at Column 15 Coffee, you will be an integral part of our café operations in Newport News. This role is essential for ensuring that our food and beverage offerings meet the highest standards of quality and service, contributing to our mission of providing unique experiences to our customers.
Responsibilities
Barista:
- Communicate customer feedback to managers and collaborate with other team members to develop seasonal drinks
- Welcome customers in a friendly and inviting manner
- Process transactions in our POS system (cash and card)
- Follow recipes and pay attention to customer requests (e.g. coffee blend, milk type, and sweetness preferences)
- Operate and maintain coffee equipment, including an espresso machine, grinders, tap system, pour-overs, french press, etc.
- Assist with inventory management and restocking supplies and retail items
Kitchen:
- Prepare and assemble food items according to established recipes and standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food preparation areas
- Ensure all food safety and hygiene regulations are followed during food handling
- Assist with inventory management by tracking stock levels of ingredients and supplies
- Follow recipes and pay attention to customer requests
Overall:
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Comply with health and safety regulations
- Provide exceptional customer service by engaging with guests and addressing their needs promptly.
- Collaborate with team members to create a positive work environment and efficient workflow.
- Participate in training sessions to learn about new menu items and preparation techniques.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in food preparation or kitchen roles is preferred.
- Strong time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently during busy periods.
- Excellent customer service skills to enhance the guest experience.
- Familiarity with cash handling procedures is a plus but not required.
- Knowledge of POS or similar systems is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Passion for coffee and the café culture is highly desirable.
- Understanding of food safety practices and regulations is essential.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Preference for at least 1 year of experience as a Barista
- Reliable and punctual
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality
- Bonus if you are knowledgeable on coffee and espresso preparation techniques
- Bonus if you have weekend availability
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs. regularly
