POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Medical Director, Supervising Physician and/or Director of Clinic Operations plans, directs, and evaluates patients in our health clinic. Responsible for examining and treating chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents, and other injuries/illnesses. Performs selected laboratory testing, referrals to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment.
The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Colusa Indian Community Council.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluates and treats clinic patients of all ages by interviewing and performing physical exams including obtaining, updating and studying medical histories.
- Performs physical examinations (Well-women, Sports-physicals, etc.)
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
- Administers injections and oral medications. Sutures wounds, orders appropriate castings and DME and applies when necessary.
- Consult appropriately with physicians and other health professionals regarding patient status. Ensure that supervising physician is kept informed of any unusual or significant findings concerning their patients.
- Assists with the coordination of health promotional activities to our tribal community.
- Performs pre-employment physicals and orders appropriate employee health vaccinations.
- Examines staff after on-the-job accidents or injuries.
- Acts as a resource person for decisions, planning, and policies affecting the health clinic and staff.
- Compiles necessary reports when required for insurance authorizations.
- Provides patient education and counsels patients and families.
- Refer patients for specialty care when necessary.
- May be required to serve as a member of committees dealing with organizations health care services.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies.
- Complies with clinic policy and procedures.
- Participates in clinic provider meetings.
- Maintains high confidentiality standards at all times. Is required to sign a confidentiality statement upon acceptance of employment.
- May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
Experience:
- Previous experience managing patients in an outpatient clinic is desired.
- One (1) year experience working in a fast-paced clinic setting.
Licensing:
- Must have current FNP/PA license in the state of California.
- Current BLS Certification
- Valid DEA license
- National Provider Identification (NPI) number
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to lift one hundred (100) pounds, if necessary to assist patient.
- Must be able to work in a busy environment and to lift a minimum of thirty (30) pounds upon occasion.
