Summary
Colville School District is now accepting letters of intent from current "in-district" custodians to assume the duty of Aster Head Custodian (at Aster School, daytime position) to ensure the physical plant is maintained in a condition of clean and safe operating excellence, cleaning classrooms, halls, offices, cafeteria/gymnasium, outside structure, etc., so that the full educational use of the building may be made at all times. Under the supervision of the Superintendent or his designee, the Aster Head Custodian will ensure that the building is maintained for maximum safety, health, and cleanliness standards. The Aster Head Custodian is responsible for the decision-making for overall effective and positive day-to-day custodial operations in the Aster School building site.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Aster Head Custodian will perform a variety of custodial and cleaning work activities inside and outside the building site using different machines, tools, equipment, and work aids.
- Move desks and chairs, empty trash and garbage containers, operate power buffers/scrubbers and commercial vacuum cleaners, climb ladders, set up and clean the lunchroom, raise and remove flags, building security, be available to work special events (athletic events, etc.), and perform other duties requiring cleaning of the specified school facility.
- Will perform minor, routine building maintenance tasks as required and snow removal as weather deems necessary.
- Cleaning daily the following areas: restrooms, drinking fountains, hallways, entrances, windows, public gathering places, and other areas as necessary.
- Work as a positive and collaborative member of the custodial staff to promote the primary goals of the Colville School District and the Custodial Department and to promote positive working relations with custodians, building staff, and students.
- Plans and guides the custodial services activities and workers at Aster in the day-to-day custodial/cleaning services and directs/oversees the work of the night custodians through the use of verbal and/or written instruction and a cleaning checklist when necessary, in conjunction with the Superintendent's plan.
- Communicates routinely and effectively with the Superintendent and custodians how the day-to-day custodial operations in the building are being performed, and recommends how to improve operations when applicable.
- Request materials, supplies, and equipment for the purpose of maintaining smooth operation and being able to complete functions.
- Available to work special events (athletic events, etc.) and/or occasional flexible work schedule.
- Attends monthly custodial meetings and will serve on building and District-Wide Safety Committees.
- Attain basic knowledge of school programs/special events in order to work with Superintendent, Athletic Directors and/or Facilities Director with scheduling of the Aster facility on a regular basis.
- Routinely checks/inspects building, grounds, and equipment to ensure proper maintenance and safety and informs the Director of Facilities or designee of deficiencies.
- Other duties as assigned.

- High school diploma, or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have skills, knowledge, and/or abilities pertaining to principles, procedures, and methods used in general building custodial/cleaning activities and minor maintenance activities, along with knowledge of cleaning tools, implements, chemicals, and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to promote positive and productive working relations with custodial workers, building staff employees, students, and public.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise others and direct night custodians to ensure all areas of responsibility are maintained and cleaned to District standards.
- Demonstrated ownership, organizational abilities, and ability to work well independently.
- Ability to deal with difficult, stressful people/situations in a positive manner.
- Must possess general knowledge of computers, carpentry, painting, and landscaping.
- Ability to perform basic reading, writing, and arithmetic, and follow written and oral communications.
- Must be in good physical health, capable of standing/walking without restrictions (capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds).
- Must have a pleasant, cooperative personality in order to communicate and work well with students, staff, and the community.
- Must be willing to acquire specialized training for thorough understanding of installed systems.
- A favorable report of a state and national fingerprinting background check is mandatory.
