What this Role will Do:
The Group Manager is accountable for the successful and profitable completion of all operational aspects of their respective business segment. This role is responsible for leading the teams within their business segment as well as serving as a Project Manager and Client Manager of select projects and clients. This position is responsible for all aspects of leadership for the teams within their business segment, including but not limited to recruiting, training, mentorship, and the evaluation of staff. Additionally, this role will serve as Oversight of Project Managers within the Group who are responsible for key projects and for all aspects of those projects including the assessment of progress against budgets and schedules. This position will prepare regular reports for senior management to inform them of important decisions and project performance. Furthermore, this role may serve as the Senior Project Manager for key projects and will be responsible for all aspects of those projects.

- Lead the assigned business segment by providing guidance and support to their direct reports while achieving profit goals.
- Promote a safety-first environment while participating in all required safety activities. Fostering safety in all aspects of the project leadership.
- Plan a construction project and prepare a project schedule.
- Collaborate fully with the Project Team to get the project completed.
- Process contract drawings and specifications and ensure that the project is built in accordance with these documents.
- Ensure that the contract drawings are the same as the estimate set of drawings.
- Process changes received from the project client, itemizing changes and presenting them to the client with confidence that the pricing is in accordance with the requested changes.
- Meet with Owners, General Contractors and others in a professional manner and have the ability to communicate effectively both the concerns and best interests of the company.
- Ensures there are no encumbrances to client issuing payment in full for the contract price including all accumulative changes, credits, etc.
- Instill a positive working relationship with the Client, Owner or their Representative, to ensure repeat business.
- Prepares regular, scheduled, timely, and accurate reporting and information flow to facilitate prompt billings.
- Monitor a project’s material and labor costs and ensure accurate quality reporting is being conducted.
- Have the ability to read, interpret, analyze and forecast a project’s cost report and determine the status of the job in terms of schedule and costing.
- Be aware of unit costs and monitor and compare progress on site with that of the project’s estimate.
- Recognize competent subordinates worthy of promotion and be abreast of position vacancies to ensure staff progression.
- Conduct/attend project meetings, bi-weekly or monthly as needed or required.
- Coordinate, manage, and communicate with all subcontractors and effectively deal with problems such as delivery, labor, schedule, and payment disputes.
- Ensure that the project provides a positive cash flow position and prepare Project Manager Reports accurately and timely for submission to the Division VP and accounting.
- Maintain continuous communication with the client to pre-sell the monthly draw, enabling enhanced billing and prompt, undisputed payments.

Education and experience requirements include an engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training plus 5 years of experience/knowledge of construction, design, finance, and management is required.
Must be able to apply innovative management techniques to maximize employee performance.
A thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards etc. and their impact on project activities is vital.
Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills are essential.
Proficiency in the department’s computer system and department software is necessary including Windows Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Accubid Estimating.
Good at mathematics, good organization/administration skills, ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others, have strong interpersonal skills and be self-motivated with enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
Key Accountabilities/Measurables:
Achieving the key measurables associated with the position will qualify the individual to participate in the discretionary annual bonus pool.
- Manage the minimum value of projects as required (min $15- $25 million);
- Demonstrate consistent aggregate monthly positive billing on projects (10 out of 12 months), where every design-build project is always positively billed, all as measured by monthly Work in Process (WIP) reports.
- Meet or exceed, on an annual aggregate average, both the targeted gross margin on the contract value of projects, AND the targeted gross margin on the respective change orders associated with the projects, as measured by the WIP reports.
- Provides consistent and accurate monthly reporting throughout the year; and
- Engages in ongoing communications with clients to pre-sell monthly billed amount resulting in prompt, undisputed invoice payments.
