What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian I position at Comal County?
General cleaning and manual labor to be performed primarily in and around Comal County Sheriff’s Office complex and other county buildings as directed by supervisor.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs floors, cleans windows, and dusts furniture.
- Cleans washbowls, sinks, drinking fountains and toilets.
- Collects rubbish and paper and empties wastebaskets.
- Waxes and polishes floors when needed.
- Sweeps sidewalks and maintains grounds.
- Vacuum and dust office and hall areas.
- Performs other related tasks as directed by supervisor.
- Attendance is an essential function of the job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Should possess a thorough working knowledge of custodial procedures and practices. Two (2) to six (6) months of maintenance operations desirable. Must be dependable, thorough, and efficient.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Salary : $38,043 - $39,562
