*Salaried position, office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, but additional work from home or at different school sites expected
POSITION SUMMARY: Seeking a dedicated elementary school counselor to support students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth (K-5th), with emphasis on fostering academic excellence, particularly in STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. with a strong focus on mathematics. The counselor will provide guidance intervention and support services that foster a positive learning environment to improve student confidence in math and promote overall academic growth in STEM fields. Use and familiarity with Artificial Intelligence will also be fostered as appropriate. Additionally, the counselor will consult with school district’s regarding their American Indian Education policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide academic, career, and personal guidance to K-5th Comanche students, including:
- Work with students to develop strong problem-solving skills, growth mindset, and mathematics skills.
- Acquaint students with Artificial Intelligence
- Provide individual and group counseling to address math anxiety and build confidence in STEM learning
- Collaborate with teachers to identify students needing additional support and develop personalized academic plans
- Foster collaboration and family engagement, including:
- Communicate with parents/guardians about students’ progress and provide resources for math support at home.
- Work with educators and administration to implement schoolwide initiatives that enhance math achievement and participation.
- Partner with community organizations to provide mentorship and extracurricular STEM learning opportunities.
- Promote social-emotional learning and growth, including:
- Help students develop perseverance, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills essential for success in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
- Address barriers to learning such as test anxiety or self-doubt through targeted interventions and support.
- Promote a positive school culture that encourages curiosity, inquiry, and resilience in an academic challenge.
- Tutor students in core areas such as mathematics, science, reading, and writing.
- Review school policies, especially regarding American Indian education and use of federal funds such as Johnson O’Malley, Title VI, or Impact Aid, for compliance with best practices.
- Other duties as assigned
REPORTS TO: This position will report to the Youth Services Director.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to travel.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work will be done in a variety of settings, office, classrooms, and outdoor settings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in school counseling, education, or related field.
- Certification licensure as a school counselor (as required by state of Oklahoma regulations)
- Experience working with elementary aged students particularly in academic support roles.
- Strong understanding of child development, math instruction strategies, and STEM.
- Knowledge of education best practices including understanding of Artificial Intelligence.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of best practices for American Indian education and best practices for use of federal funds for American Indian education such as Johnson O’Malley, Title VI, or Impact Aid.
- Excellent communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build relationships with students, families, and educators.
- Ability to travel for school visits and community outreach activities.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and families.
- Must possess a Valid Driver’s License and insurable by the Comanche Nation Insurance.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
