POSITION SUMMARY: The Paraprofessional Transit Safety Advisor and Trainer position will report to the program Director and work together with the Transit Asset Management in maintaining the field of safety for the transit department. The positions shall carry out the function of the Safety Management System (SMS) throughout daily operations. Monitoring of safety issues in office and in routes, including risks and hazards that threaten the safety of employees and assets. He/She will be proactive at finding solutions to accidents and/or incidents within the transit department. This position will also require training new hires and required yearly training of all employees, as well as fuel management for fuel system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for carrying out Safety Management System (SMS)
- Monitors safety risks and mitigation
- Monitors and nurtures department Safety Culture
- Provides reports on safety performance
- Maintains safety and training documentation
- Carries out safety evaluations when needed
- Provides safety mentoring and counseling to employees when needed
- Works with Transit Asset Management to author safety policy
- Carries out safety trainings and new hire training (Operators and Dispatchers)
- Learn to operate transit vehicles and go out on routes
- Learn dispatch software and lake client calls
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledgeable of applicable safety rules and regulations per FTA (Federal Transit Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation)
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, ETC.)
- Possess strong organization skills
- Possess strong communication skills and personable skills
- Possess good analytical ability
- Ability to learn and adhere to tribal rules and regulations
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting objectively
- Ability to read, write, and communicate proficiently
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift heavy items in some situations
- Be at work station at all times with the exception of scheduled break and lunch periods.
- You should be here and clocked in at least a few minutes before your scheduled shift. This is so you can be prepared to start your work on time.
- Remember it is up to you to be ready to work by your scheduled time.

REPORTS TO: Will report to the Transit Director.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work consists of bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, frequently lifting up to 24 lbs., and sitting for extended periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work will be conducted in office, outdoors, and on bus routes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Relevant work experience in field of Safety and/or Safety Management (Preferred)
- Experience working in transit system (Preferred)
- Valid Class D Oklahoma Driver's License
- Experience in Fuel Management
