Summary
The Saw Operator cuts bar stock, tube stock, sheet stock and other stock materials to length as required for subsequent Machining and Welding operations. The Saw Operator completes work quickly, accurately and with a high degree of quality, and follows Company practices for workplace safety.
Essential Functions
The Saw Operator will perform the following duties:
· Measures and cuts materials to specifications using machine tools such as saws and shears.
· Reads and understands engineering prints, bills-of-material, materials specifications, and other job specifications.
· Inspects equipment daily before use.
· Pulls materials and inspects quality of stock, checking for imperfections, prior to cutting.
· Sorts completed jobs and routes to next operation correctly.
· Sets-up, adjusts, and operates all equipment to complete the sawing operations. Monitors equipment while in operation, adjusting speed and tension to ensure proper and safe operation.
· Measures, examines, and verifies accuracy of work completed to detect defects and ensure conformance to engineering prints and specifications.
· Cleans and maintains all equipment and tools according to Company standards. Replaces defective or worn saw blades as necessary. Lubricates and clean equipment.
· Assists with the unloading of raw materials utilizing a forklift from trucks when delivered. Stores raw materials in correct locations.
· Monitors inventory levels of raw materials. Notifies Purchasing when re-orders are necessary.
· Cross-trains for supporting roles for personal growth and department support.
· Assists team members enthusiastically and as needed to build strong partnerships.
· Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
· Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures, based on OSHA safety guidelines, and wears required PPE at all times.
· Keeps regular and predictable attendance.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment
The Saw Operator will work daily in the Machine and Weld Shop. Persons in this role regularly operate metal-cutting equipment such as saws and shears and other equipment such as hand tools and gages. The air in the work environment is moderated, but temperatures may fluctuate from hot to cold depending on the seasons. The department may prove to be very fast paced. The noise level is moderate to high.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
The Saw Operator has a physically active role. The employee should be able to stand and walk for up to 8 hours, be required to lift materials and use hand tools. The Saw Operator is expected to have the ability to move arms and hands, and lift and carry materials. The employee needs unimpaired vision to see close, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The Saw Operator is required to be compliant with and follow OSHA safety standards.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position is full-time, working first shift Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Overtime may be necessary on occasion to meet the production schedule.
Skills
· Highly knowledgeable in the methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the trade.
· Proficient in the operation of machine tools and the use of measuring devices.
· Knowledgeable in the properties of various metals such as steel, aluminum, brass, and stainless steel as well as many plastics.
· Knowledgeable in the proper maintenance of saws and shearing equipment.
· Demonstrated mathematical, measuring, and mechanical aptitude.
· High attention to detail for performing accurate work and checking accuracy.
· Excellent verbal communication.
· Excellent housekeeping and organization.
· Knowledgeable in standards for workplace safety.
· Professionalism and ability to work together with team members to help meet or exceed deadlines.
· Reading comprehension to understand instructions, reports, and specifications.
· Able to read engineering prints.
· Basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft office.
· Forklift experience.
Education/Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent is required.
· Must have a minimum of 3 years prior experience operating saws or metal forming equipment.
· Must have a minimum of 5 years prior experience in a manufacturing and assembly environment.
· Familiarity with the correct usage of personal protective equipment (PPE).
