Position Summary
Job Summary
This is a hybrid role that combines project management and hands-on fieldwork. The selected candidate will manage commercial retrofit projects while also working part-time in the field performing installations, start-ups, controls integration, and functional testing of HVAC systems. This position requires a strong mix of leadership, technical expertise, and a hands-on approach to ensure high-quality project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management Responsibilities (Primary Role)
- Oversee and manage commercial HVAC retrofit projects from planning to completion.
- Daily time approval for techs, weekly billings for work orders in progress and completed and semiannual assessments for direct reports.
- Coordinate with General Contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, procurement plans, and job cost tracking.
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to field technicians and installation crews.
- Ensure project documentation, including submittals, RFI responses, and closeout materials, are completed.
- Conduct job site visits to assess progress, identify challenges, and ensure safety compliance.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and proactively address concerns.
Field Technician Responsibilities (Part-Time Field Work)
- Assist with HVAC system installations, retrofits, and modifications as needed.
- Perform equipment start-up, testing, and commissioning of commercial HVAC systems.
- Troubleshoot installed HVAC systems and work with manufacturers on warranty items.
- Conduct functional performance testing to ensure proper system operation.
- Collaborate with field teams to solve installation challenges and optimize system performance.
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards and local building codes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC project management and/or field installation.
- Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, retrofits, and controls.
- Hands-on experience with installation, start-up, and troubleshooting of HVAC equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and control diagrams.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to balance office-based project management duties with hands-on fieldwork.
- Proficient in project management software, Microsoft Office, and estimating tools.
- OSHA 10/30 certification is a plus.
Preferred Certifications & Licenses
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
- HVAC Journeyman or Master’s License (preferred but not required)
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to stand, squat, bend, stoop and comfortably lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in tight/open/high/low spaces
- Ability to work comfortably from a ladder
- Ability to manipulate small objects with fingers
- Ability to work in variable weather conditions
- Ability to pass full background screening and drug screening
- Ability to pass MVR check
- Ability to travel, as needed, for projects or training
