What are the responsibilities and job description for the Art Consultant position at COMHAR, Inc.?
JOB SUMMARY:
Art helps individuals make many of the choices in creating and expressing oneself. It empowers the individual to make decisions, to observe, to do things in art. Is important to their ability to cope with life circumstances, to see things in different perspectives and to be their own creator.
The purpose of Art is to:
1. Provide opportunities for individuals in recovery to direct their own process.
2. Teach, coach, and motivate individuals in the acquisition and utilization of dormant skills or new skills that enhances one's recovery process.
3. Educate individuals about recognizing their own strengths and skill sets.
4. Promote the utilization of art making to build self-esteem and empowers individuals in their recovery journey.
5. Facilitate the development of a sense of wellness and self-worth through the use of art.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Education and Engagement
1. Engage individuals in learning to recognize the value of their own personal growth experiences.
2. Assist in orientating persons in recovery about the value in stories and art, which helps them to aspire towards achieving their hopes, dreams, and self-determination.
3. Model and support individuals in learning to recognize their own personal achievements as an inner resource through mirroring and validation.
4. Provide individual and group coaching, mentoring, education, feedback and positive reinforcement for individuals to help to support and emphasize personal responsibility.
5. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competence and be trauma informed as relevant to the needs of individuals in recovery
6. Educate individuals in understanding the value of art making and journaling as a resource to help cope with triggers and to avert potential relapse.
7. Work closely with recovery staff to encourage supports and services that can assist individuals towards achieving a greater sense of well-being.
Training and Supervision
1. Be familiar with recovery/psych rehab approaches including motivational interviewing.
2. Participate in and complete all CBH mandatory in-services including HIPAA,
compliance, and confidentiality.
3. Keep supervisor informed of all potential problematic situations/concerns/issues.
4. Keep supervisor and team members informed about individuals' strengths,
accomplishments and obstacles they are experiencing obtaining their recovery goals.
Documentation
1. Complete all required documentation in a timely, legible manner, e.g., group sign in sheets.
Policies and Procedures
1. Be aware of and follow COMHAR policies and procedures including those regarding
confidentiality, HIPPA, compliance, personal policies, etc.
Quality Improvement
1. Participate in quality improvement and data gathering as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and awareness of mental health recovery through personal experiences or working with individuals who have been in recovery. Bachelors or Master's degree in art or related field plus experience working with individuals in a teaching, educational, or supportive role; or an Associates Degree plus at least 4 years of experience working with individuals in a teaching, educational, or supportive role
