Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in calculating the cost of construction projects, including materials, labor, and equipment. As a key member of the project planning team, the Construction Estimator will work closely with architects, engineers, vendors, and project managers to prepare budgets, project plans, and cost proposals. This role demands a keen eye for detail, excellent research skills, and the ability to analyze and manage project risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research: Investigate materials, equipment, and labor costs to ensure accurate and up-to-date estimates.
  • Gather Quotes: Obtain and review quotes from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to determine the best pricing options.
  • Analyze: Assess project data, including exchange rates and market conditions, to provide the most accurate cost projections.
  • Assess Risk: Evaluate potential risks related to project scope, cost, and timeline to ensure feasibility and minimize unexpected costs.
  • Create Proposals: Prepare and present detailed, comprehensive cost proposals for clients, including breakdowns of materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Review Bids: Review and validate subcontractor bids, ensuring they align with the project scope, specifications, and budget.
  • Maintain Documentation: Keep organized files of all working documents, including estimates, quotes, and revisions, as backup for cost calculations and project planning.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with project managers, contractors, engineers, and suppliers to clarify specifications, adjust estimates, and optimize project costs.
  • Cost Control: Identify cost-saving opportunities and suggest strategies for reducing project expenses without compromising quality.
  • Ensure Accuracy: Review material take-offs, drawings, and project specifications to confirm that estimates are complete and accurate.
  • Bid Management: Organize incoming bid requests and manage deadlines to ensure timely submission and compliance with project schedules.
  • Client Communication: Communicate with clients to clarify scope questions, provide clarifications, and address any changes in project specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Proven experience as a construction estimator, with a solid track record of estimating costs for a wide range of construction projects.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Buildertrend, Sage Estimating) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Knowledge of construction processes, methods, and industry standards is required.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex project data and provide accurate cost estimates.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically and find innovative ways to reduce costs and mitigate project risks.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience in construction estimating.

Additional Requirements:

  • Previous experience with bid preparation and cost estimation is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Understanding of construction contracts, legal terms, and project management processes.
