What are the responsibilities and job description for the Freelance Product Photographer position at Commerce Group Holdings?
We are looking for a part-time product photographer for our CPG company. As the photographer, you will focus on photographing for social, advertising, web and emails for new product launches and ongoing sales cycle. The ideal candidate will also creatively animate stop motion content. You’ll also collaborate with the design team, Creative Director, Marketing to build visuals and introduce new techniques to bring our products to life. Day-to-day, you will work with a team of graphic designers to execute all digital assets, style photoshoots with props, and retouch all images in preparation for use in all instances . Must be quick to adapt to changes in direction and still maintain a high level of execution. This position is based out of our headquarters in Chatsworth. We expect the candidate to come into our offices to shoot and editing can be done remotely. This is a contract position.
Skill Set
- Builds sets, establishes lighting schematic, and composes imagery that meet creative direction. Brings a point of view that helps communicate the intended story or outcome.
- Capture imagery according to creative aesthetic using lighting, set design, composition, and overall photographic technique then delivers to the creative team once retouched.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a cross functional team.
- Expert in Photoshop and retouching images as needed (Cropping, Exposure, Background Removal, Color-Correction/Conversion, etc.) according to company standards.
- Maintain a high energy and professional atmosphere in the studio.
- Ensures brand consistency in all photos, across all mediums based on professional experience.
- Collaborates with the creative team to take an idea from concept to reality. Helps with defining look and feel and provides expertise and ideas on how to take a concept to the next level.
- Compose, stylize, and stage product shots, based on direction provided standards in setting up lighting, color accuracy, and exposure for each shot.
- Scout locations, models, and pets for location shoots.
- Operates cameras, lighting equipment, and monitors/adjust equipment during shoots required.
- Manages time efficiently to complete shoots/projects in a timely fashion (meeting deadlines).
- Experienced in stop motion photography
Requirements
- Work easily in both strobe and continuous light environments.
- Maintain photo equipment and cleanliness of the studio.
- Organizes studio space, equipment, and procedures to achieve an efficient workflow.
- Manages photo equipment (troubleshooting issues, helping to manage repairs, maintaining appropriate inventory and ensuring good safe storage.)
- Portfolio demonstrating strong photographic abilities
- Experience working with Sony camera
- Experience using Capture One/Lightroom
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to troubleshoot lighting and camera issues
- Understand deadlines and schedules in order to help prioritize product
- Ability to think and react in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
- Creative thinker; frequently pushes imagination beyond the comfort zone
- Great listener; enjoys collaborating with other professionals
- Able to communicate effectively and professionally in person, via email, and via phone correspondence

- You have impeccable attention to detail
- Videography experience a plus
