What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Construction Controller position at Commercial Construction Firm?
We are seeking a skilled Controller to help us maintain accurate financial operations, stay on top of tax filings and payments, and work closely with ownership and our CPA. We use Foundation Software to manage our financial operations, and we're looking for someone who is eager to learn and adapt to this system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Role: Oversee the daily financial operations, ensuring every transaction is accurately recorded and compliant with regulations.
- Financial Reporting: Lead the preparation and oversight of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Internal Focus: Manage internal processes and systems, ensuring the accounting department operates efficiently. Oversee audits, cash flow management, and budgeting.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments to vendors and proper collections from clients.
- On-Time Monthly Billing: Ensure that monthly billing goes out on time to clients, keeping projects on track and cash flow consistent.
- Detail-Oriented: Ensure financial data is correct, thorough, and in line with accounting principles. Provide reliable information to support strategic decisions.
- Tax Filings and Payments: Help stay on top of tax filings and payments, ensuring timely and accurate submissions to avoid penalties and maintain compliance.
- Collaboration: Work closely with company ownership and our CPA to align on financial goals, tax strategies, and ensure all reporting requirements are met.
- Monthly Reporting: Provide timely monthly financial reports, including the balance sheet, income statement, and Work in Progress (WIP) reports, to provide transparency and keep the management team informed of the company’s financial standing.
- Overall Financial Oversight: Collaborate with the CFO to ensure day-to-day financial activities support broader company goals.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in financial management or accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
- Experience with tax filings, managing AP/AR, and ensuring timely billing.
- Ability to collaborate with ownership and external partners (like CPAs).
- Proficiency in preparing and presenting monthly financial reports (balance sheet, income statement, WIP).
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new systems and processes, particularly Foundation Software.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage complex financial data.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team.
