Office of the Commissioner of Accounts for the 19th Judicial Circuit: The Commissioner’s office conducts a number of hearings in connection with the administration of fiduciary matters, including, among others, debts and demands hearings, hearings pursuant to Virginia Code § 64.2-1209, and matters that the Circuit Court refers to the office. Many of these matters are complex, requiring substantive research and analysis.
The office conducts more than 250 hearings annually. The law clerk will gain significant, hands-on experience in assisting the Commissioner with the conduct of hearings and preparation of reports for filing with the Court.
Law Clerk (Student): We are looking for a law student to work part-time through May, with the opportunity for full-time work in the summer. Applicant must have strong research and writing skills and attention to detail is paramount. Interest in probate and fiduciary matters is preferred. Position available immediately.
Duties: Law clerk is expected to brief Commissioner on upcoming hearings, attend four to seven hearings per week with the Commissioner, and write hearing reports. Law clerk will review and finalize hearing notices, correspond regularly with fiduciaries and other interested parties, and research case law and statutes pertaining to fiduciary matters.
