What are the responsibilities and job description for the Evening Shelter Support position at COMMITTEE ON TEMPORARY SHELTER?
Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS) is seeking dedicated, compassionate folks to join our team at the Waystation. The Waystation is our emergency overnight shelter for single adults.
This position is an opportunity to provide safety, support, and compassion when it’s needed most. In this role, you become a steady presence, offering dignity and respect to those experiencing homelessness and helping to create a space where every person feels seen and valued.

PART-TIME SHIFTS AVAIALBLE: (Full-time opportunities for the right candidate(s))
- 5:00pm to 10:00pm, 5 days a week
- 5:00pm to 12:00am, 3 days a week
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Perform regular safety walkthroughs of the building and grounds
- Collaborate with community resources, including BPD and Howard Center
- Welcoming guests and completing intakerelated tasks
- Stay aware of guest needs; refer to COTS or community services as appropriate.
- Experience with or willing to learn deescalation and crisis management techniques
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school degree or equivalent required
- Customer service experience; human services experience a plus, but not required.
- Able to support individuals facing mental health, medical, substance use, or employment challenges.
COTS mission: Advocating for long-term solutions to end homelessness and provide emergency shelter, services, and long-term housing for Vermonters who are experiencing homelessness or are marginally housed.
