Common Ground Childcare is hiring Summer Camp Counselors who are ready to make this summer, the best summer ever, for our kids ages 5-12!
Common Ground has been providing quality care and education in Reston for over 50 years. Our summer program has always been a favorite of both the kids that attend and the counselors that work at it!
Camp shifts are 8-9 hours in length with a 30 minute paid break, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Counselors are generally assigned the same hours at one-week intervals. Upon applying you will mark the weeks that you are available, and days / times that you need off, and can include preferences in your schedule. There may be additional events that you can volunteer to work (paid hours) and counselors are eligible for overtime, though we try to not work you too hard!
Our camp is divided into groups with two counselors assigned to each group and a camp director that oversees the program.
We provide free first aid / CPR and / or lifeguard training!
This position can start as early as mid May.
Preschool Camp weeks are : May 30 to August 13
School Aged Camp weeks are : June 19 through August 18. You do not need to be available all weeks!
Duties
Lead Camp Counselor Job Responsibilities :
Under the direction of the School Age Program Director, and supporting the Lead Camp Counselor :
- Assists and planning and implementing camp programs for children.
- Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
- Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
- Contributes to and facilitates lesson plans for daily activities.
- Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
- Ensures the cleanliness of the site.
- Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Records and tracks camper’s dietary restrictions / allergies and ensures that the meals / snacks are distributed to them.
- Mediates any campers’ disputes.
- Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your charges at all times.
- Maintains constant surveillance of the pool / body of water areas while participating.
