Position & Candidate Description
Common House is seeking an experienced community builder and sales professional to join our team. The ideal candidate is a charismatic, highly social individual who excels in customer-facing roles. As the Membership Sales Manager, you will possess an extensive and unrivaled network in Richmond, demonstrating a deep understanding of the city’s politics, diverse communities, corporate organizations, and vibrant social scenes.
This position requires a dynamic leader who combines innate charm with a genuine passion for connecting with others. You should be equally adept at selling experiences and closing deals while managing daily operations, tools, budgets, plans, and strategies. We are looking for a connector who is comfortable with outreach, possesses exceptional drive and attention to detail, and showcases polished presentation skills. Your natural ability to build relationships will be key to your success in this role.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Membership Growth
- Annually identify key players in the local community to ultimately build a diverse, and influential Membership that is representative of the broader market
- Work towards monthly, quarterly and annual goals set forth by the leadership team to hit new member growth numbers through direct sales outreach and executing a sales and marketing plan
- Complete weekly outreach tasks through networking externally, sourcing new leads and emailing potential membership opportunities
- Work closely with the Director of Operations and Membership Director to build a community-focused strategy around membership growth offering promotions throughout the year to reach specific demographics and communities
- Process all applications of new members
- Give tours to potential new members, focusing on CH’s community-building mission
- Community Partnership & Outreach
- Serve as a brand ambassador for Common House in the Richmond community through attending at least four local networking events monthly
- Identify key businesses in the area to generate Corporate Membership packages and relationships
- Manage Membership Committee with the support of the Member Experience Manager to increase membership referrals and community partnerships
- Membership Retention
- Engage with current members to improve member experience and retention while using these relationships to grow membership through member referrals
- Host at least one monthly member networking event (e.g. New Member Happy Hour, Community Connections) and work closely with the front and back of house teams to ensure event details are clear across departments
- Execute the Common Ground program annually and work with various members of the team for the selection process
- Billing, Analysis & Reporting
- Participate in weekly All-Team meetings, reporting on member applications, cancellations, pause requests, etc., and any other pertinent membership discussion items
- Manage monthly membership budget to ensure spend does not exceed allotted funds
To be successful in this role, you must be:
- People Obsessed- This role centers around Common House members. You will be responsible for cultivating strong relationships within our community and fostering networking opportunities that contribute to membership growth and success of Common House.
- An Experienced Practitioner- A bachelor's degree or commensurate experience is preferred. We are seeking someone with a minimum of 4 years of demonstrated sales experience (and evident interest) in membership sales and networking.
- A Natural Influencer- You will engage with a broad range of members, including individuals, groups, companies, nonprofits, and community partners, to ensure that their needs are met and addressed. Additionally, you will play a key role in attracting new members to Common House by promoting benefits of membership.
To be successful at Common House, you must be:
- A Start-Up’er – Common House is a start-up and an innovator in the social club space. Likewise, we need our Membership Sales Manager to embody the same love of start-up chaos, with an ability to jump in and begin assisting as soon as they start. You should have experience operating both as a team and under developing, autonomous direction.
- Entrepreneurial -- If you've ever felt the satisfaction of building a team, a department or a practice from the ground-up, you know it takes a certain combination of grit, skill and enthusiasm. Additionally, this role will require a candidate who practices independent judgment and discretion, as many duties performed are of a critical & confidential nature.

This position is based in Richmond with the expectation of being onsite, and available some weekends and evenings.
