Summary
The Marketing Manager is responsible for developing a multifaceted marketing strategy and executing marketing campaigns to grow Commonplace Coffee’s various business units and overall brand. This role requires an understanding of people and a strategic mind that can take data and insights to create meaningful campaigns, assets, and events to promote Commonplace Coffee. This role is well suited for a motivated individual who enjoys working with teams, both inside and outside Commonplace Coffee. The Marketing Manager supports all areas of Commonplace Coffee, including seven retail cafes, wholesale, and bakery. The Marketing Manager will report to the executive leadership team.
Essential Functions
- Manage overall marketing strategy and develop various marketing plans to support specific objectives and business units.
- Analyze customer insights, consumer trends, market analysis, and marketing best practices to build successful marketing plans and strategies.
- Manage marketing budget, ensuring accurate financial reporting and ROI tracking.
- Serve as key liaison between Commonplace’s Marketing Department and Commonplace retail cafe locations through ongoing relationship development and recurring meetings with shop managers.
- Create, maintain, and conduct analytics across multiple platforms for KPIs. Extract and report insights and incorporate into future initiatives, complete with formal proposals and recommendations on tactics.
- Assist with content generation, working with Marketing Coordinator to ensure all content is engaging, relevant, and on-brand across various marketing channels.
- Develop and nurture relationships with national and local media, influencers, etc.
- Provide information and support to wholesale clients, acting as a representative of Commonplace Coffee in important external meetings, as needed.
- Support internal and external event planning, including project management, outreach opportunity, and engagement with other groups for cross-promotion.
- Oversee management of the website as well as the implementation and use of all marketing software and tools.
- Manage key vendor relationships with outside firms.
- Manage Marketing Coordinator and participate in staffing decisions for marketing positions as the department grows.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience as part of in-house marketing department, agency, or similar; working in a fast paced environment.
- Proven success in developing marketing plans and campaigns.
- Fluency in social media and marketing strategies in order to partner effectively on campaigns.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Editing and copywriting experience.
- Metrics-driven marketing mind with eye for creativity.
- Experience with marketing automation and various software applications including Shopify, Mailchimp, Google Workspace, etc.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with journalists and media partners to pitch and secure coverage for stories.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Proven ability to multitask and be a nimble and creative problem-solver.
- Passion for hospitality and community building.
- Management experience is preferred but not required.
- Coffee experience is preferred but not required.
Physical Demands
- Written and oral communication – must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with team members through oral communication and in writing.
- Taste and smell – must be able to detect and perceive the smells of coffee.
- Must be able to travel locally.
Work environment
- Work is performed in Commonplace Coffee Headquarters and remotely.
- This job involves high amounts of interpersonal interaction.
Supervisory responsibilities
- This role supervises the Marketing Coordinator.
- Responsible for overseeing projects undertaken by various members of Commonplace Coffee that involve a significant level of marketing support.
