Responsibilities
The clinical Laboratory Scientist has a California State license and performs tests requiring the exercise of independent judgment, assigned administrative duties and responsibility under the general direction of the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager, and Laboratory Supervisor. This includes all the
necessary processes ancillary to such testing including, but not limited to, phlebotomy, equipment and glassware maintenance, reporting of findings, record keeping, reagent monitoring and ordering, quality assurance and quality improvement procedures, development of new or modified test procedures, and
necessary administrative duties as may be assigned. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will perform only those tests for which the scientist is qualified by education, training, and/or experience.
Job Standards:
- Performs technical procedures maintaining accuracy, precision, and meeting department time frames.
- Reports and interprets lab results accurately meeting turnaround time exceptions.
- Maintains reagents, supplies, and equipment for the department.
- Assist with the ordering, collecting and processing of laboratory specimens when needed.
- Performs projects and writes policies/procedures or reports, within time frame given.
- Documenting and/or gathering data as required.
- Participation in the Laboratory QA/QI program.
- Incident documentation and reporting.
- Assist with answering phones and front office buzzer when needed.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a biological science.
Licensure:
- State of California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

- Ability to work as a team member to meet team goals and objectives; work effectively under multiple demands and adjust priorities as circumstances require to meet turnaround time goals and staffing needs of the department; maintain a high degree of accuracy and precision on consistent basis in the performance of laboratory procedures; treat co-workers, patients, visitors, and the public with dignity and respect; establish and maintain
effective working relationships with all medical staff; maintain patient confidentiality; trouble shoot procedures and instrumentation and problem solve
effectively; work a flexible schedule and be willing to work additional hours as needed for the provision of quality patient care. Physically able to walk, stand, stoop and lift. Walks and stands 50% of shift. Good manual dexterity. Visual and auditory acuity. Color blindness may limit the testing tat may be performed.
