Responsibilities
The incumbent participates in programs involving operation and maintenance of buildings, grounds, equipment, distribution lines for steam, hot water, plumbing, electricity, refrigeration, sanitation for hospital and Medical Office buildings. Will respond effectively to emergency situations, including fire, disruptions of above stated utilities or other emergency situations. The Extra Engineer will intermittently cover eight (8) hour shifts- day, evening, or night shifts.
Job Duties:
- Completes preventative maintenance work orders per standard indicated on work order.
- Takes readings and makes mechanical rounds checks within time frame. Reports any discrepancies immediately to supervisor.
- Demonstrates and exercises the necessary skills to operate and maintain all related boiler operations and equipment, including fuel switching.
- Responds and performs appropriately to emergency situations as they occur. Demonstrates and exercises appropriate actions when required to adhere to the sterile dress codes in related areas.
- Demonstrates and exercises the necessary skills to properly operate and maintain all related HVAC equipment.
- Consistently practices the safe operation of equipment and uses all safety equipment as appropriate.
- Demonstrates and exercises the necessary skills to enter and extract correct information from the computer system and the related programs.
- Understands and operates emergency generators and related switch-gear per Regulatory Standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- 4 years overall experience in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 years hospital experience preferred.
- Associate Science Degree in Mechanical Electrical Technology or related field preferred.
Licensure:
- Universal CFC certification
- Valid California Drivers License
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Use specific formulas,
conversation tables and other mathematical factors normally used in engineering operations and maintenance activities.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before individuals or employees of the organization. Ability to perform basic computer skills needed to input and extract engineering work orders and other documentation.
