Responsibilities

A CommonSpirit Health Nurse Resident is a new graduate direct clinical care registered nurse (RN) who continues to develop nursing knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors introduced in formal education as they transition into practice. They are expected to demonstrate the appropriate competency in both core and functional areas, listed below.


Progression is expected in the areas of leading through mission vision and values, patient/customer focus, taking ownership, health care knowledge, teamwork, clinical performance improvement, service excellence, decision making and critical thinking, and patient safety.


ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Evidence-based Practice (EBP) and Patient Care: Builds skills to utilize current evidence based practice knowledge, the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals across the lifespan and care continuum.
  2. Interprofessional Collaboration and Communication: Learns to collaborate and communicate with the interprofessional team to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
  3. Leadership: Develops accountability for own practice, delegated care, and the coordination of care delivery. Behaves in a manner that supports colleagues, and maintains respect, trust and dignity.
  4. Professionalism: Acquires and maintains knowledge in nursing practice and assumes responsibility for the professional development of self.
  5. Attainment of Core Competencies:
    • Ownership: Has a basic understanding and knowledge of the current situation or issue at hand; ability to take full personal responsibility or ownership for assignments, activities, decisions and results.Teamwork: Basic understanding and knowledge of the necessity and value of teamwork; participates effectively as part of a team.
    • Patient / Customer Focus: Basic understanding ensuring that the patient/customer perspective is a driving force behind our actions and business decisions; crafting and implementing service practices that
      meet patients'/customers’ and own organization’s needs. (Focus also includes internal and external customers.)
    • Leading through Mission, Vision and Values: Basic understanding keeping the organization’s mission, vision and values at the forefront of associate decision making and action.
    • Effective communication: Basic understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
    • Patient Safety: Basic understanding and knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
    • Clinical Performance Improvement: Basic understanding and knowledge of the factors contributing to quality patient care, and the ability to influence these factors in a positive way.
    • Continuous Learning: Basic understanding of the rationale behind the necessity to continually learn and grow and the ability to seek performance feedback and identify approaches to improve one's own performance and that of others.
    • Followership: Basic understanding of and ability to carry out strategies and tasks that support the mission and goals of the leader and the organization.
    • Service Excellence: Basic understanding and knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.
    • Healthcare Knowledge: Basic understanding and knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations.
    • Nursing Assessment and Care: Basic understanding of and ability to assess ailments and injuries of patients and implement a treatment plan.
    • Decision-Making and Critical Thinking: Basic understanding and knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
    • Clinical Skills: Basic understanding of and ability to provide clinical skills necessary for patient care, e.g. history taking, therapeutic planning and monitoring, etc., to achieve optimized outcomes in medication therapy and clinical treatment.

 


Qualifications

We require:

  • Current WA State RN license. 
  • CPR certification is required every two years or as specified by the work.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing approved by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
  • Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:

  • Must meet the requirements of the year long program, including preparation work and class attendance
  • Must remain in a full-time position for the entirety of the year long program
  • Must be able to work and train on either night or day shifts including holidays
  • Must agree to terms and conditions of the program
