The Community Investment Program (CIP) is at the forefront of realizing the organization's mission and channels financial resources to institutions or projects that address the social determinants of health in the form of below-market rate loans to institutions and / or projects. With an allocation of up to $400 million, of which approximately $250 million is either deployed or approved for deployment, the CIP promotes access to jobs, housing, food, education, and health care for people in low-income communities, with a particular focus on the communities we serve.

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE

The Community Investment Program Manager will champion and orchestrate all facets of an exceptional, nationally recognized place-based community investment program, assuming responsibility for refining and achieving program objectives. This encompasses overseeing key functions such as financial analysis and loan underwriting, business development, internal / external collaboration, operational excellence, program management, fund disbursement, legal and security agreement management, and process enhancement. The role has primary accountability for sourcing and underwriting community investments, fostering internal and external partnerships, and leading the operations and portfolio management of existing loans throughout all of CommonSpirits service territory. This position reports directly to the System Director, Investments within the Treasury Department and will collaborate with other teams including Mission, while developing a high-performing dedicated team supporting these functions and taking leadership roles in committees.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial Expertise and Evaluation : Utilize deep expertise to execute rigorous credit and financial analysis on prospective borrowers. Prepare thoughtful, comprehensive credit memos, presenting findings to the CIP Subcommittee for recommendation and Investment Subcommittee for approval.
  • Strategic and Collaborative Partnerships : Collaborate closely with reports, key internal staff, and market-based community benefit representatives in CommonSpirits service areas. Contribute to the development of annual metrics and facilitate the sharing of vital CIP information both internally and externally. Cultivate and sustain robust relationships with mission-aligned nonprofit borrowers.
  • Operational Excellence : Oversee and lead program maintenance, payment tracking, reporting, program reconciliation, and accountability report reviews, and proactively address borrower delinquency in strong partnership with custodian Northern Trust and the Treasury team. Implement a monitoring system for the receipt of interest and principal payments from borrowers to ensure timely payment and follow-up as needed.
  • Process Enhancement and Portfolio Expansion : Lead the development, refinement, and expansion of CIP processes and workflows. Conduct continuous reviews of the CIP portfolio, exploring new community-based organizations and projects linked to the diversification and enhancement of health equity within communities.
  • Strategic Representation : Serve as the face of CIP through external engagements, including participation in advisory boards. Lead workshops and contribute to panel interviews, supporting other health systems in expanding their place-based investment programs.

Qualifications :

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience, with demonstrated excellent analytic and communication experience in working with community-based organizations 7 years of financial, underwriting, and / or banking experience.
  • Understanding of finance and accounting principles in relation to project budgets, purchasing and analysis of financial results; nonprofit financial accounting and familiarity with community investing a plus.
  • Ability to contribute to the implementation of Community Health operational and strategic goals and objectives and ensure effective collaboration to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, especially the ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical audiences, are required.
  • Proven ability to interact with people at all levels inside / outside the organization to develop effective partnerships and networks.
  • Demonstrated KPI and service level management experience.
  • Proficiency with Google docs, Google sheets, Google slides, Word,
