Purpose
The Front-End Manager is responsible for taking command of front-end operations, ensuring
seamless checkout processes, delivering stellar customer service, and predicting the needs of
shoppers to create a superior shopping experience. This role involves leading and developing a
high-performing team, setting operational standards, and fostering a welcoming and efficient
environment. The Front-End Manager also contributes to Good Foods Grocery and Commonwealth
Autism’s growth by aligning departmental functions with company goals, maintaining high-quality
standards, and supporting community initiatives.
General Responsibilities
• Adhere to and enforce GFG and Commonwealth Autism policies and procedures.
• Monitor work email during business hours for timely responses.
• Support GFG’s goals and community involvement.
• Communicate project needs and priorities clearly before the end of each shift.
• Foster a respectful and productive work environment, setting a positive example for the
team.
• Ensure all duties are covered during absences and proactively suggest improvements.
• Work toward leadership growth and contribute to the overall success of the company.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
• Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising front-end staff.
• Organize schedules to ensure adequate coverage during peak times.
• Participate in leadership meetings and stay informed on industry trends.
• Dedicate 10% of time to supporting Commonwealth Autism initiatives, including interns
and graduates.
• Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) in the absence of the store or assistant manager.
Operational Excellence
• Take charge of the front-end area, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
• Proactively identify and address potential bottlenecks or challenges.
• Implement strategies to improve efficiency, minimize wait times, and enhance customer
satisfaction.
Customer Service
• Lead by example in delivering stellar customer service, ensuring staff meets the highest
standards of hospitality and attentiveness.
• Actively engage with customers, predict their needs, and offer personalized solutions or
recommendations.
• Handle escalated customer concerns with professionalism and empathy, resolving issues
promptly.
Merchandising & Marketing
• Maintain an organized, visually appealing front-end area that reflects company values.
• Ensure accurate signage and displays, including promotional materials and seasonal
setups.
• Collaborate with other departments to enhance cross-merchandising opportunities and
drive sales.
Inventory Management
• Monitor and manage front-end supplies, including bags, receipt paper, and promotional
materials.
• Ensure adequate stock levels for checkout essentials and suggest improvements based on
usage trends.
Specific Responsibilities to Front-End Management
Checkout Operations
• Oversee cash register and checkout equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
• Support cashiers to minimize wait times while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
• Ensure accurate handling of cash and electronic transactions, with regular audits for
compliance.
Queue Management
• Monitor customer flow to prevent delays and optimize line management strategies.
• Implement innovative solutions to reduce queue times and enhance the shopping
experience.
Training and Development
• Provide ongoing staff training on exceptional customer service, cash handling, and product
knowledge.
• Stay informed on product details, promotions, and sales to assist both staff and customers
effectively.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand for extended periods, up to 8 hours a day with breaks.
• Ability to lift, stand, or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read small, detailed labels and POS directions with 20/20 vision (natural or
corrected).
• Manual dexterity to operate a cash register and handle items efficiently.
