The Legislative Research Commission is accepting applications for the position of Research Analyst in the Office of Education Accountability. This position is nonpartisan in nature and requires the ability to work with neutrality in a politically charged environment.

Job Duties
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, education/public policy or other field requiring data analysis coursework. Advanced degree advantageous.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Knowledge base generally acquired from a college degree and some experience in data analysis, data visualization, or conducting research.

Job Duties
- Create graphs, tables, and utilize appropriate software for comparative analysis, and to present research findings, recommendations, and conclusions to legislative committees and relevant stakeholders.
- Analyze large data sets to produce descriptive and statistical findings relevant to research questions or education data monitoring.
- Review national and state policies, research, and proposed legislation related to various K-12 issues to stay informed on relevant education issues.
- Collaborate with Division Manager and team in identifying potential research topics.
- Collaborate with research team to prepare a detailed work plan for assigned studies.
- Conduct research according to plan, ensure timely completion of tasks and deliverables.
- Present findings as requested to committees and to the General Assembly.
- Review and contribute analysis of education reports, findings, data, and regulations.
- Design and conduct surveys, questionnaires, site visits, interviews, and focus group discussions to collect qualitative and quantitative data for analysis and context within the scope of an assigned study or review.
- Upon request by the Division Manager attend education meetings, provide summaries to assist in monitoring K-12 topics, and stay updated on key developments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Travel for work-related duties.
- Ability to create visually appealing graphical representations and numerical summaries to effectively communicate research findings to various audiences.
- Capable in utilizing statistical software packages for data analysis and interpretation.
- Strong understanding of statistical principles.
- Strong written and oral presentation skills in conveying complex information effectively to the public and the General Assembly.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive research, prepare issue papers, and produce research reports for the General Assembly.
- Adaptable in working both alone and collaboratively within a team, displaying strong self-motivation and the ability to contribute effectively to group efforts.
- Skilled in managing tasks and projects within specified time-frames, and delivering quality results under demanding circumstances.
- Demonstrates organizational skills in maintaining accurate and well-organized records and files related to research activities.
- Exhibits a strong commitment to serving the public interest and working in a nonpartisan manner through research efforts.
- Capable of effectively collaborating with professionals from diverse disciplines, contributing to a productive and cooperative multidisciplinary research environment.
