The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agency that provides services and programs to enhance the self-sufficiency of families; improve safety and permanency for children and vulnerable adults; and engage families and community partners in a collaborative decision-making process.
DCBS is searching for a Family Support Specialist III who is highly skilled and motivated to help others. This includes providing professional services directly to the public in reviewing, monitoring, and determining eligibility for assistance programs. The Family Support Specialist III will also serve as a mentor and support for new staff, providing policy and procedure guidance on a daily basis. Attention to detail, experience communicating with the public, and the ability to create and utilize reports to track deadlines are all skills necessary for this position. The Family Support Specialist III is a demanding and rewarding position that requires leadership, maturity, and a strong knowledge of policy.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of experience in reviewing, monitoring, determining eligibility for, or administering the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program, Child Care Assistance Program, Medical Assistance, or other public assistance programs.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in social work, counseling, providing direct services to individuals and/or families (i.e., employment services, community action agencies), or experience in reviewing, monitoring, determining eligibility for and/or administering the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program, Child Care Assistance Program, Medical Assistance, or other public assistance programs will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

- Interview clients, in person and/or via phone, to gather information for applications for public assistance programs.
- Process verification provided by clients to determine eligibility for public assistance programs.
- Explain program requirements to clients, including what information is needed to process their case and program requirements to which they may be subject.
- Identify resources in the community and make appropriate referrals.
- Answer inquiries from clients regarding general program rules as well as case-specific questions.
- Review the work of Family Support Specialist for accuracy.
- Oversee office functions in the absence of the supervisor.
- Assist with training of new staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
