Description
The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agency that provides services and programs to enhance the self-sufficiency of families; improve the safety and permanency for children and vulnerable adults; and engage families and community partners in a collaborative decision-making process.
We are seeking a Spanish Speaking Foreign Language Interpreter I who is driven to succeed in helping assist the Limited English-Speaking populations our agency serves. Our agency desires to serve these populations more effectively and efficiently to meet their needs for public assistance and community-based programs. The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated, organized, and able to multi-task and prioritize work assignments well. The employee is expected to perform at the highest quality to ensure services to vulnerable citizens.

Responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:
The position you are applying for has access to or use of federal tax information (FTI) or meets the statutory definition of front-line staff. Therefore, pursuant to IRS Publication 1075 and 900 KAR 1:009 or KRS 194A.062 and 900 KAR 1:050, applicants for this position in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) shall submit to a fingerprint-based criminal background check by the Department of Kentucky State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
CHFS also participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. CHFS will only use E-Verify once you have accepted a job offer and completed the Form I-9. Responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:
- Provides Spanish foreign language interpreting and translation services for agency staff, community partners, and the public related to public assistance programs.
- Interprets and translates information and documentation for the agency to serve LEP (Limited English Proficiency) populations.
- Assists agency staff in the collection and analysis of data relating to public assistance programs serving LEP populations.
- Assists agency staff with conducting community outreach efforts to increase awareness of available resources offered by the agency and within the community to better serve the LEP populations.
- Assists agency staff with reviewing policy, procedures, training curriculum, technical information, etc. to enhance the agency's service provision to LEP populations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- The ability to work well under pressure.
- A willingness to work as part of a team.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of experience in a job where duties included providing oral interpretation and written translation services in a foreign language.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in a job providing oral interpretation and written translation services in a foreign language will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Applicants will be required to take a language proficiency assessment administered by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and be deemed qualified according to guidelines established by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Work is primarily performed in an office setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
