By joining the Division of Forestry, Pineville Branch Section II as a Forest Ranger Technician I in Whitley County, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to ensuring the programmatic integrity of numerous forestry-related programs, and the consistent delivery of services to the public. During the performance of your assigned duties, you will interact on a daily and weekly basis with not only the public, but with branch personnel, branch management, and the division's program staff.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in the natural, biological, or physical sciences.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Forest management, forest protection, or related experience will substitute for the associate's degree on the basis of two years of experience for one year of education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this job classification. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed outdoors on private forest lands. Work can be under adverse conditions due to weather, topography, or when suppressing wild land fires. Adverse conditions could be present when assisting in all-risk emergency response when mobilized. Work also involves frequent contact with citizens and organizations in the promotion of forestry programs. Duties are typically performed within the Commonwealth of Kentucky; however, some functions may occur in other states.

- Performing Wildland Fire Prevention, Suppression, Law Enforcement, and Related Activities.
- Conducting Timber Harvesting Compliance Inspections and Regulatory Enforcement.
- Providing Forest Management Technical Assistance.
- Performing Forestry Education and Public Outreach.
- Ability to work independently.
- Effective communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Proficient knowledge and use of information technology.
