Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have eight years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance. College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 3 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.

Summary Of Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of advanced level work such as layout concrete forms, repair equipment, install pillings, excavate using boom equipment, haul heavy equipment, and install thermoplastic pavement markings.
- Operates heavy equipment and oversees small resurfacing projects, inspections,checks final bills and estimates.
- Performs proper routine traffic control and safety processes. Operates surveying equipment. Serve as quality assurance inspector for multiple activities such as laying pipe, concrete coring, earthwork paving asphalt and guardrail installation for compliance with plans and specifications. Works snow and ice removal and emergencies duties. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ensuring the safety of employees and proper traffic control on job sites.
