As a Law Enforcement Instructor, you’ll be able to utilize your passion and knowledge for law enforcement, to provide quality criminal justice training, through both in-person and virtual training methods, that will enhance the ability of the state's law enforcement personnel. Which will reduce crime and its cost to society and create a safe, secure environment for Kentucky.
The Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) has an opening for a Law Enforcement Training Instructor in the Louisville Field Section. This position's primary designated workstation will be located in, Louisville and will work in conjunction with the main campus located in,Richmond, Kentucky. The instructor will teach from established lesson plans and develop, implement, and evaluate training courses that meet the standards and requirements of DOCJT and the Kentucky Law Enforcement Counsel (KLEC).This is delivered through classroom instruction in general and specialty law enforcement topics for In-Service, including, courses pertinent to current investigational methods, as well as contributing to professional development in current law enforcement personnel, and agencies around the Commonwealth. Courses include Basic Interviewing, Advanced Interviewing and Interrogation, Contemporary Issues in Policing and Terrorism, Tactics and Techniques, Internal Affairs, and Human Trafficking.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or in law enforcement telecommunications.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or in law enforcement telecommunications will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To The Following
- Teaches assigned law enforcement topics using approved lesson plans, conducts scenario-based training, and utilizes adult learning principles.
- Research and revise established lesson plans and develop new lesson plans and instructional class materials for law enforcement or law enforcement-related topics.
- Coordinates class training and class preparation for training courses.
- Prepares and completes all required administrative paperwork, testing, grading, and any class-required reports.
- Attends internal and external training courses.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Sworn civilian law enforcement experience.
- Significant experience in public speaking and presentation skills.
- Experience in adult learning principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of the use of computer technology, e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackboard, etc.
- Broad knowledge of law enforcement topics.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Lift heavy objects or work in uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time.
- May be required to carry or use a firearm.
- Frequently communicate in person or by other means of technology.
- Spend a major portion of time using a computer.
- Travel required (state vehicle provided).
