The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.
The Mechanical Maintenance and Operations Technician II at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) maintains the operation of associated systems and equipment at the institution.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of experience in the maintenance or repair of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, or electrical systems.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age.
Working Conditions
May be required to take care of emergency repairs twenty-four hours a day.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
- Inspects assigned area projecting maintenance needs in consultation with the appropriate department heads.
- Performs all preventative maintenance for their assigned work area and coordinates work with other skilled trade areas (plumbers, electricians, etc.)
- Inspects equipment, determines equipment needs and orders parts as needed.
- Prepares reports and ensures documentation is completed as needed.
