The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.
The Postal Technician I is a vital part of this mission through performing complex duties in the mailroom within the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title requires daily travel to pick up and deliver mail.

Key Responsibilities May Include
- Serves in searching and processing incoming and outgoing mail for staff and inmates.
- Assists staff and inmates with proper mailing and shipping procedures
- Maintains accountability of proper use of accounts and classes of mail
- Maintains logs
- Tracks daily postage charges and completes quarterly post office checks
- Maintains and operates postal equipment
- Maintains and orders mailroom supplies
