This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. This is a demanding position that requires maturity, reliability, and self-discipline. Career growth and advancement are encouraged through training and mentoring opportunities.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of teaching experience or recreational therapy experience (some types of experience might include teaching people with sight disabilities to use a cane, a therapeutic recreation leader, teaching daily living skills, or how to communicate).
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Graduate study in a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Paraprofessional experience in teaching people with disabilities vocational, pre-vocational, communications, mobility, daily living skills, or related activities will substitute for the required education on a year- for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for- year basis.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
- Teaches vocational, pre-vocational, communications, mobility, daily living activities, independent living activities and related subjects within a DJJ facility.
- Provides vocational assessments.
- Plans and develops pre-vocational instructions; teaches assigned areas i.e., daily living, independent living, career readiness, keyboarding, career options, financial literacy, etc. and/or other related subjects within DJJ.
- Interprets vocational policies and procedures.
- Advises superintendent and other management staff of change in vocational policies and procedures.
- Responds to inquiries from DJJ community, facility or other agencies concerning the facility's vocational program.
- Provides in-service training on vocational programs.
- Attends professional, trade council, civic meetings and other meetings to gather and disseminate information as it relates to vocational programs.
- Logs observations of youth's educational seat hours.
- Attends individual treatment planning conference and treatment team meetings.
- Communicates observations with treatment team.
- Prepares status reports on vocational programs for supervisor.
