The Bluegrass Challenge Academy is hiring a Social Service Worker I position that provides entry level professional social service assistance to current and former Cadets of Kentucky Youth Challenge Academy through assessment of client needs and the provision of social services.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
The Bluegrass Challenge Academy is hiring a Social Service Worker I position that provides entry level professional social service assistance to current and former Cadets of Kentucky Youth Challenge Academy through assessment of client needs and the provision of social services.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Works as a member of a team with paraprofessional and professional staff to ensure unified service to Cadets.
- Develops service objectives and service plans, makes appropriate referrals, and provides and coordinates appropriate services.
- Recruits and studies mentoring applicants and assists in the placement of juveniles in appropriate nonresidential phase (ie. education and vocational settings).
- Conducts individual and/or group counseling and assists with formation of Cadet treatment and discharge plans.
- Maintains current and confidential case records.
- Arranges for and provides transportation if unavailable from other sources.
- Verifies Cadet information and prepares reports for juveniles and their families.
- Enters data into information management system and maintains records.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, marriage and family therapy or a related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): If employed by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services or the Department of Juvenile Justice, an employee in this job classification must furnish to the appointing authority within one month of employment, documentation that he/she possesses a valid driver's license.

Working Conditions
Performs job duties in an office/facility or residential program setting and visits clients and/or families at their residence. Provides emergency services on 24-hour basis, including accepting referrals and completing investigations at any hour without prior warning. As a result of enforced intervention, the worker runs the risk of physical harm.
