Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Holders of the Transportation Engineer Supervisor position will complete tasks such as:
- Plans, assigns, and supervises work on the section’s office staff in order to meet the objectives of the construction inspection, routine maintenance, and other engineering programs.
- Reviews and analyzes data to plan and design or coordinate the planning and design of transportation facilities in accordance with department and federal policies, procedures and standards.
- Interprets project plans and contract documents for property owners, local officials, contractors, consultants, materials suppliers and property owners.
- Confers with contractors, materials suppliers, consultants, local officials, departmental engineers, county maintenance, and special operations crews on technical and operational problems.
- Ability to perform direct line supervision of the activities of an engineering program.
- Ability to interpret and draft professional and technical papers and reports.
- Ability to determine ways and means for proper expenditure of funds for various transportation program.
- Ability to review and analyze transportation plan data.
- Must be licensed professional engineer by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure.
- Must have two years of engineering experience.
- A master's in engineering will substitute for 1 year of the required experience.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
