By joining our Project Delivery & Preservation Branch I as a TRANSPORTATION ENGRNG TECHNOLOGIST III in Jefferson County, you’ll have the opportunity to oversees activities on major construction, maintenance, bridge inspection, or utility relocation projects use technical expertise and knowledge of engineering documents such as plans and specifications to oversee engineering projects.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, computer science, data science, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology. OR Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of engineering-related experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: 1. Possess a valid EIT certification issued by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors OR 2. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate degree in an engineering field OR 3. High school OR 4. High school
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: 1. Must have four years of engineering-related experience with the first education option above; OR 2. Must have seven years of engineering-related experience with the second education option above; OR 3. Must have ten years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the third education option above; OR 4. Must have eight years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified InspectionTeam Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the fourth education option above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Summary Of Responsibilities
- Assists engineer to oversee major construction or maintenance projects.
- Inspects, reviews, and monitors all project phases to ensure contractor work meets compliance with project plans.
- Develops and maintains major project documentation on major projects.
- Prepares and reviews project documentation for records of materials, inspection reports, surveying notes, and traffic control reviews to ensure compliance.
- Learns to estimate project costs, recommends budgets and monitors operational budgets and prepares documentation for final payment to contractors.
