THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is seeking an eager Career Advisor Trainee with excellent communications skills to provide customer-centered services designed to enhance workforce development activities and service strategies. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Career Advisor Trainee, you will receive formal and on-the-job training that is designed to help you develop the understanding and competence to provide professional employment services to job seekers and employers to advance employment opportunities in the commonwealth. This position allows you to develop, enhance, and learn to apply knowledge of workforce development programs, services, policies, regulations, legislation, and procedures. You will be learning how to provide group and individual intake services to jobseekers and employers; assisting with developing and conducting workshops, presentations, and orientations to services; as well as acquiring experience in planning and conducting group and individual career counseling and coaching on résumé-writing, interviewing, job search, networking, and other topics. You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and establish proficiency in searching for, verifying, and approving or rejecting new employer information in compliance with established requirements.

Upon successful completion of the Career Advisor Trainee training program, Trainees will be promoted to Career Advisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Columbia County.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of public contact work that involved interviewing the public to obtain, provide, and evaluate information concerning employment or employability; or
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
