DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will conduct analyses of environmental samples to detect significant analytes, utilizing specialized equipment and techniques in accordance with established methods from the U.S. EPA, standard protocols, Hach, and DEP validated procedures. Your primary responsibilities will focus on Ion chromatography for anions and total kjeldahl nitrogen, while secondary tasks will encompass biochemical oxygen demand, carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand, methylene blue active substances, and weak acid dissociable/total cyanide.
Additionally, you will be responsible for performing analyses while ensuring quality assurance and quality control measures are in place. You will also propose strategies for method enhancement and develop protocols to assess the applicability of published improvements and new methodologies. This will involve conducting necessary experimental work to create a comprehensive database that will aid in evaluating the feasibility of the suggested modifications.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $58,035.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Chemist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of professional chemical analytical experience, and a bachelor’s degree that includes 30 credits in chemistry or biochemistry; or
- A graduate degree in chemistry.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
