DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Corrections Food Service Instructor at SCI Mercer, you will lead inmates in executing both routine and specialized tasks within the correctional facility's food service operation. You will confidently assign and assist inmates in pre-preparation, production, service, and baking. Training inmates in food preparation and cooking equips them with essential vocational skills and fosters a sense of responsibility and self-worth. Delegating them with these valuable abilities will pave the way for their successful reintegration into society. You will also uphold security by enforcing regulations and expertly managing inmates' work records. Furthermore, you will conduct thorough inspections of food service areas and equipment to guarantee that safety and sanitation standards are consistently met. It is essential to properly store all food and supplies by implementing first-in, first-out protocols.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Work hours are 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM or 4:00 AM - 12:00 PM
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,986 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
