THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Food Service Supervisor, you will oversee instructors and inmate workers performing routine and specialized tasks in large-scale food service operations at SCI Dallas. You will direct the hands-on vocational instruction in food preparation, baking, meat cutting, and sanitation. You will also complete work schedules, manage quality control requirements, order inventory, and develop menus. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to form effective working relationships to ensure inmates learn the basics of food service operations. In addition, you will provide special instructions for therapeutic and religious diet menus, reduce food waste by making recipe adjustments, and exercise therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates at all times.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 4:45 AM to 1:15 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. You will have rotating days off.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $50,846 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as a Corrections Food Service Instructor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation, which included one year of lead work experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training, which included one year of lead work experience.

Additional Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
