DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will collaborate closely with the District Geotechnical Engineer across all Unit functions. Your responsibilities will encompass providing geotechnical design recommendations, reviewing consultant reports, preparing documentation, conducting geological and soil site assessments, managing the mining variance and monitoring program, and coordinating repairs for geotechnical hazards. You will address the needs of County Maintenance Managers by recommending, estimating, and drafting typical sections related to foundation, slope stability, drainage, and mine collapse issues. Additionally, you will monitor, analyze, and interpret data from instruments installed in earth slopes and beneath roadways, coordinating appropriate treatments for longwall mined areas, and assisting with GP-3 permit applications for slope repairs as required. Your role will also involve detailing cross-sections with relevant boring log information and slope treatments, inspecting and approving bearing strata for foundations and embankments, as well as directing and coordinating the workloads of CO-OP students and interns.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Allentown.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Possession of an active Geologist-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and one year of professional experience in geologic work; or
- One year as a Geoscience Trainee (commonwealth title); or
- One year of professional geology experience, and a bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geoscience, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
