THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is on the lookout for a committed person to join our team as a Park Resource Ranger with Big Elk Creek State Park, and White Clay Creek Preserve. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will assist park visitors by providing details about park facilities, activities, rules, policies, and environmental history, as well as information on points of interest and nearby state parks. You will also be responsible for delivering emergency care, including CPR and First Aid, and conducting search and rescue operations for lost individuals. Traveling throughout the park by vehicle, on foot, or by bicycle, you will address any issues that may threaten visitor safety. Additionally, you will inspect buildings and grounds for safety hazards, take immediate action to correct them, and report any concerns to your supervisor promptly. You will secure facilities and equipment to prevent vandalism and theft, utilize the park's reservation system to manage permits and reservations, and handle all revenue and bank deposits. You will inform visitors about park rules and encourage compliance, issue courtesy notices as needed, and collaborate with State Police and other enforcement agencies within the park.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal, full-time employment, without benefits
  • Will work 5 days per week 37.5 hrs/shifts-days will vary based on operational needs, to include holidays and weekends.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
  • You must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
