THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is on the lookout for a personable individual to join their team as a Park Resource Ranger at the Kettle Creek State Park Complex. In this extraordinary opportunity, you will play a vital role in enhancing park operations and outdoor recreation, all while ensuring a safe experience for our visitors. Your focus will be on encouraging park visitors to enjoy the park’s amazing facilities responsibly and safely. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Park Resource Ranger for the DCNR, your duties will cover both Kettle Creek and Ole Bull State Parks. You will have the opportunity to meet with park visitors to answer questions regarding park facilities, recreational schedules, park history, and environmental features. Your knowledge of the park will allow you to explain park rules, regulations, and procedures to visitors. You will assist with monitoring the park buildings and facilities for safety and security. Work includes responding to emergency situations and administering first aid, including artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation to injured park visitors. You may assist in search and rescue operations to locate lost visitors on State Park grounds and boundaries. Additional duties include making reservations for campers, issuing permits, collecting fees, and maintaining office coverage when clerk is not available.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Seasonal full-time employment without benefits.
  • Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours, 5 days per week

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:
  • All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • All employees must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
