DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for developing plans and essential documentation within specified deadlines to ensure adherence to project schedules. Effective communication with PennDOT personnel, consultants, and local authorities is crucial to ensure timely task completion with minimal errors. Your duties will encompass a range of technical activities related to drafting, including the creation of highway plans derived from field survey data, the design of minor highway projects from initial engineering stages to final documentation, and the execution of small design tasks under the guidance of a civil engineer or designer. Additional responsibilities involve performing and validating mathematical calculations, establishing horizontal and vertical alignments, and determining drainage parameters through applicable formulas. Furthermore, the role includes assisting in the layout of grade lines and the calculation of gradients for minor projects, making necessary adjustments to align with existing conditions and requirements. You will also contribute to specific tasks on small highway projects, such as drainage design and super elevation transitions, while managing all drafting and detailing required to produce minor highway plans, progressing from initial sketches to final designs. The use of CADD design software for minor assignments and conducting field investigations to evaluate terrain, drainage, and other physical factors for design considerations will also be part of your responsibilities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
