What are the responsibilities and job description for the Co-Responder County Caseworker 3 (LG) - Columbia-Montour-Snyder-Union Co MH/ID (Multiple Vacancies) position at Commonwealth of Pennsylvania?
We are looking for motivated and dependable Caseworkers to provide Mental Health Co-Responder services while embedded in a local police department. If you like the idea of helping the community and providing social service response to individuals in need, then CMSU needs you on our team!
As a County Case Worker 3, Co-Responder you will receive direct supervision from the County Base Service Unit (BSU) Director and report to both the BSU Director and the Chief of the local police department or their designee. A Co-Responder in this position is expected to have the ability to function independently and decisively as well as maintain confidentiality in high pressure situations. An individual in this position will respond with police officers where a social services response is more appropriate than a law enforcement response. In order to be successful in this position, you will be expected to have:
- A knowledge of both normal and abnormal human behavior
- Development, diagnostic, and assessment skills
- The ability to effectively interact with individuals receiving or in need of services, their families, and other professionals in the community
- A knowledge of the criminal justice system
- Oral and written communication skills including clinical terminology
- The ability to exercise good judgment in the performance of all duties.
On day one of employment, CMSU’s employees begin earning paid vacation and sick time. In addition to vacation and sick time, CMSU provides four (4) personal days per year and 15 paid holidays. CMSU also provides health, dental, and vision insurance to its staff. Tuition reimbursement for graduate and undergraduate courses both in-person or on-line is also available. CMSU staff also qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience as a County Caseworker 2; or
- A bachelor's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and three years of professional social casework experience in a public or private social services agency; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
