- DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will be responsible for conducting a range of analytical tasks, preventative maintenance, and repair activities for a fleet that includes construction machinery, trucks, and automobiles, all powered by either gasoline or diesel engines. Your duties will encompass the repair and maintenance of various systems, including hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, as well as both manual and automatic transmissions. You will also be tasked with performing state vehicle inspections on all assigned equipment that requires such evaluations, ensuring that work orders are completed accurately, time is logged correctly, and any incidents of equipment damage or accidents are reported without delay.
You will engage in the repair and overhaul of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and tractors, while also maintaining and repairing equipment like sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. Your responsibilities will include replacing and repairing components such as shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, and brakes. Additionally, you will balance wheels, check alignment, perform minor body repairs, and overhaul and test alternators and electrical systems on both vehicles and equipment.
A key aspect of your role will involve implementing a preventative maintenance program for vehicles, equipment, and their parts. You will perform automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes, as well as repair and replace engine sub-assemblies. Your expertise will extend to adjusting and repairing cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning systems, along with maintaining fuel, brake, steering, and transmission systems. You will also be responsible for repairing or rebuilding construction and shop equipment.
You will conduct official state inspections focused on safety and emissions for assigned vehicles, ensuring that all repairs meet compliance standards. This includes road testing vehicles, completing inspection stickers, and maintaining accurate State Inspection Records and related documentation. Furthermore, you will utilize diagnostic equipment and procedures to identify issues with equipment, determining appropriate repair methods, tools, and parts needed. Your role will also involve the maintenance and repair of motorized hand tools, such as chain saws, compressors, jack hammers, tampers, hand mowers, trimmers, routers, patching machines, and heating kettles.Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $54,279 (before taxes).

- REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
- Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- All positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
