What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Programs Trainee position at Commonwealth of Pennsylvania?

This position is responsible for performing and assisting in the processing, analysis, and reconciliation of receivable accounts in the general ledger. This includes receivables for Purchase of Service (POS) transactions for specialized POS types such as Elimination of the Effects of the Frozen Present Value (EEFPV), as well as annuitant receivables and receivables related to travel expenses for Investment Office personnel. This position is responsible for the postings that occur to the receivables in the General Ledger and for the reconciliation of the GL accounts to the V3 system and/or to spreadsheets used to document the activity. Furthermore, this position is responsible for using general-purpose software programs, including but not limited to, Lawson System, Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, QSS, Treasury, and the Commonwealth’s accounting system, SAP.
 
After successfully completing a full year of training, candidate will be promoted to Accountant 1.


This position is responsible for the identification of reconciliation differences and takes the necessary action to correct them. If this position finds differences that are caused by the actions of other staff members, this position creates recommendation(s) on how those problems could be resolved and presents them to the supervisor for additional action.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework:  You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of experience in bookkeeping work which included twelve (12) credits in accounting; or 
  • A Bachelor's Degree including twelve (12) credits in accounting; or 
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes twelve (12) credits in accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
