The HVAC Mechanic role in the Energy Resource Management Office (ERMO) within the Department of General Services (DGS) offers an exciting opportunity to work in the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and refrigeration systems. As an HVAC Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanic, you will Identify and troubleshoot complex equipment malfunctions, perform diagnostics, disassemble, and reassemble equipment, repair, and replace parts and controls, and test to ensure proper functions of equipment. Your duties will include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment that supports an entire facility to include chillers, boilers, pumping systems, cooling towers, and other related HVAC equipment. You will be expected to perform routine repairs on air handling equipment by replacing failed components. This position installs basic HVAC units such as split system air conditioners or heat pumps used for comfort heating and cooling, window air conditioners, circulation or exhaust fans, and similar equipment. You will have the opportunity to assist higher level trades persons with identifying and troubleshooting problems related to air flow, water flow, refrigerant flows, electrical failures of motors, and electrical circuits in HVAC systems including process cooling equipment. Your work will require you to adhere to department safety protocols and identify any safety concerns to supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is considered essential. You will be required to report to work during emergencies and office closings.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems, units, and equipment; or
- Completion of a three-year Vo-Tech training program in refrigeration, HVAC, or building automation and six months experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems, related digitally controlled equipment, or BA systems; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration equipment.
Special Requirements:
- You must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within 6 months of employment.
- You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of HVAC systems.
- Experience utilizing Building Automation Systems for the purposes of monitoring and adjusting HVAC equipment performance.
- Experience troubleshooting chillers, boilers, or automation systems.
- An associates degree in HVAC, Refrigeration, Building Automation Systems, or closely related field.
- Experience using a computerized maintenance management system, or work order system.
- Ability to work 7:00 am - 3:00 pm shift; 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm shift; or 11:00 pm - 7:00 am shift.
