The Department of State's Bureau of Enforcement and Investigation is seeking a highly dedicated person to uphold the standards of various business professions. In this role, you will join the professional team of inspectors assigned to the Harrisburg Regional Office (HRO) and will provide inspection services to the following counties that comprise HRO: Somerset, Bedford, Fulton, Franklin, Adams, York, Lancaster, Berks Lebanon, Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Centre, Cambria, Blair, and Clearfield. Inspectors are assigned specific areas to provide coverage; however, an inspector could be assigned an inspection anywhere within HRO.


This is a highly rewarding position that ensures public health and safety through field inspection work to determine compliance with laws, rules, and regulations regarding professional and occupational licensing and other areas under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Commonwealth. Your primary focus in this role will be the physical inspection of barber shops, cosmetology salons, real estate offices, and vehicle dealerships. 


You will travel to various sites in a geographic area of the state to conduct periodic inspections of all affected professions and occupations by observation and interviews, noting any deviation from established standards, and preparing reports to communicate your findings. Inspectors issue citations when appropriate violations are found. Inspectors also provide limited investigative support activities. Your responsibilities will include gathering facts, reviewing, and evaluating information received and initiating appropriate actions in addition to making decisions for routine courses of action to successfully complete assignments, conducting research, and relating your findings in typed reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • This position requires travel. 
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts; or 
  • An Associate's Degree and one year of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts; or 
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which included one year of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts.


Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a driver's license which is not under suspension.
