DESCRIPTION OF WORK
PennDOT has several opportunities for students to kick-start their career in Summer 2025! You can gain valuable experience in areas such as information technology, geology, or any other scientific or technical related field. This is your chance to put your college training to use, gain indispensable skills, and experience the satisfaction of public service.
Interns in the Bureau of Planning and Research will assist in the creation and maintenance of road centerline and intersection geometries which serve as the foundational geometric elements for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Model Inventory of Roadway Elements (MIRE) safety initiative. MIRE provides a comprehensive list of roadway and traffic data elements and data dictionary to support data-driven safety decision making. The road centerline inventory must include all public roadways across the Commonwealth. The intersection geometries will include all at-grade, ramp, and rotary legs.
Work Schedule and Additional Information :
- Full-time internship that will run from 5 / 1 / 2025 through 8 / 29 / 2025
Work hours are 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Some positions may require travel
Telework : You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

QUALIFICATIONS
Students who are interested in a PennDOT internship must meet all of the following requirements :
In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
Must be at least 18 years of age
Special Requirement : Certain positions require a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License

Coursework in geographic information systems or geospatial technologies
